The most beautiful emotion we can experience

"The most beautiful emotion we can experience is the mysterious. It is the fundamental emotion that stands at the cradle of all true art and science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead, a snuffed-out candle. To sense that behind anything that can be experienced there is something that our minds cannot grasp, whose beauty and sublimity reaches us only indirectly; this is religiousness. In this sense, and in this sense only, I am a devoutly religious man." Albert Einstein

We are in the position of a little child

"I'm not an atheist. I don't think I can call myself a pantheist. The problem involved is too vast for our limited minds. We are in the position of a little child entering a huge library filled with books in many languages. The child knows someone must have written those books. It does not know how. It does not understand the languages in which they were written. The child dimly suspects a mysterious order in the arrangement of the books but doesn't know what it is. That, it seems to me, is the attitude of even the most intelligent human being toward God. We see the universe marvelously arranged and obeying certain laws but only dimly understand these laws." Albert Einstein

A literatura tem-me ajudado a envelhecer.

Mathematical economics is old enough

"Mathematical economics is old enough to be respectable, but not all economists respect it. It has powerful supporters and impressive testimonials, yet many capable economists deny that mathematics, except as a shorthand or expository device, can be applied to economic reasoning. There have even been rumors that mathematics is used in economics (and in other social sciences) either for the deliberate purpose of mystification or to confer dignity upon common places as French was once used in diplomatic communications." James R. Newman,  The World of Mathematics , 1956

Mathematical astronomy

The discovery in 1846 of the planet Neptune was a dramatic and spectacular achievement of mathematical astronomy. The very existence of this new member of the solar system, and its exact location, were demonstrated with pencil and paper; there was left to observers only the routine task of pointing their telescopes at the spot the mathematicians had marked. James R. Newman, The World of Mathematics , New York: Simon and Schuster, 1956.

The most interesting creations of the human mind

"Games are among the most interesting creations of the human mind, and the analysis of their structure is full of adventure and surprises. Unfortunately there is never a lack of mathematicians for the job of transforming delectable ingredients into a dish that tastes like a damp blanket." James R. Newman, The World of Mathematics , 1956

George Stigler, The organization of industry , 1968, p.5

What chess teaches you

“You sit at the board and suddenly your heart leaps. Your hand trembles to pick up the piece and move it. But what chess  teaches you is that you must sit there calmly and think about whether it’s really a good idea and whether there are other,  better ideas.”  Stanley Kubrick

Indecision

"Nothing is so exhausting as indecision and nothing is so futile." Bertrand Russell, The conquest of hapiness

Sobre a elaboração de um texto

“Empregue frases curtas. Ernest Hemingway
